Adding your Email accounts to your email client.

Adding an IMAP email account to an email client can be slightly different based on the email client you are using. Below are the step-by-step instructions for adding an IMAP email account to Outlook, Windows Mail, Em Client, and Thunderbird.

Note: In all email clients, you will need to have the following information before starting the setup process:

  • Your email address
  • Password for your email account
  • Incoming mail server (IMAP): mail.yourdomain.co.za (replace yourdomain.co.za with your actual domain)
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.co.za (replace yourdomain.co.za with your actual domain)
  • Incoming mail port: 993
  • Outgoing mail port: 465

Adding an IMAP email account to Outlook

  1. Open Outlook and click on the “File” tab in the upper-left corner.
  2. Click on “Add Account” in the right-hand pane.
  3. Select “Manual setup or additional server types” and click “Next.”
  4. Select “POP or IMAP” and click “Next.”
  5. Enter your name, email address, and password in the fields provided.
  6. Select “IMAP” as the account type.
  7. In the “Incoming mail server” field, enter “mail.yourdomain.co.za”.
  8. In the “Outgoing mail server” field, enter “mail.yourdomain.co.za”.
  9. Enter your full email address in the “User Name” field.
  10. Enter your password in the “Password” field.
  11. Click on the “More Settings” button.
  12. Go to the “Outgoing Server” tab and check the box that says “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”.
  13. Go to the “Advanced” tab and enter the following information:
    • Incoming server (IMAP): 993
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
    • Outgoing server (SMTP): 465
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
  14. Click “OK” and then click “Next” to test your account settings.
  15. If everything is working correctly, you should see a “Congratulations!” message. Click “Finish” to complete the setup.

Adding an IMAP email account to Windows Mail

  1. Open Windows Mail and click on “Add Account” in the left-hand pane.
  2. Select “Advanced Setup” and click “Internet email.”
  3. Enter your email address, password, and display name in the fields provided.
  4. In the “Incoming email server” field, enter “mail.yourdomain.co.za”.
  5. In the “Account type” field, select “IMAP4”.
  6. In the “Outgoing (SMTP) email server” field, enter “mail.yourdomain.co.za”.
  7. Click on the “Advanced mailbox settings” link.
  8. Enter the following information in the fields provided:
    • Incoming server (IMAP): 993
    • This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL): Checked
    • Outgoing server (SMTP): 465
    • This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL): Checked
  9. Click “Sign in” to test your account settings.
  10. If everything is working correctly, you should see a “Your account was added successfully” message. Click “Done” to complete the setup.

Adding an IMAP email account to eM Client

  1. Open eM Client and click on “Menu” in the upper-left corner.
  2. Select “Tools” and then “Accounts” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click on the “New account” button in the lower-left corner.
  4. Enter your email address and password in the fields provided.
  5. Select “IMAP” as the account type.
  6. In the “Mail” tab, enter the following information:
    • Incoming mail server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
    • Incoming port: 993
    • Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy): Checked
  7. In the “SMTP” tab, enter the following information:
    • Outgoing mail server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
    • Outgoing port: 465
    • Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy): Checked
    • Server requires authentication: Checked
  8. Click on the “Finish” button to complete the setup.
  1. In the “Mail” tab, enter the following information:
    • Incoming mail server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
    • Incoming port: 993
    • Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy): Checked
  2. In the “SMTP” tab, enter the following information:
    • Outgoing mail server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
    • Outgoing port: 465
    • Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy): Checked
    • Server requires authentication: Checked
  3. Click on the “Finish” button to complete the setup.

Adding an IMAP email account to Thunderbird

  1. Open Thunderbird and click on “Menu” in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select “Options” and then “Account Settings” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click on the “Account Actions” button in the lower-left corner and select “Add Mail Account.”
  4. Enter your name, email address, and password in the fields provided.
  5. Click on the “Configure manually” button.
  6. Enter the following information:
    • Incoming: IMAP
    • Server hostname: mail.yourdomain.co.za
    • Port: 993
    • SSL: SSL/TLS
    • Authentication: Normal password
    • Outgoing: SMTP
    • Server hostname: mail.yourdomain.co.za
    • Port: 465
    • SSL: SSL/TLS
    • Authentication: Normal password
  7. Click on the “Re-test” button to test your account settings.
  8. If everything is working correctly, you should see a “Success!” message. Click on the “Done” button to complete the setup.
